Suspected Left Wing Extremists of the outlawed CPI (Maoists) raided a railways construction site in Dantewada district and set four vehicles on fire. The track doubling works of Kothavalasa-Kirandul (KK) line under Waltair Railway Division of the East Coast Railway is in progress. The KK-Line has been earning 90 per cent of division’s revenue, as the country’s largest iron ore producer and exporter National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) has been ferrying minerals from the section.

Since a major section of the track doubling work comes under the areas, where the Maoists have a stronghold, the progress of the project is slow. About 20 heavily armed Maoists late Tuesday evening struck at the project site between Bacheli and Nareli villages and threatened the workers to stop the work.

They later set four vehicles engaged in the project on fire. Besides one JCB, a poclain and two tippers were gutted in the fire, Dantewada Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallava said while adding that the Naxals slipped into the adjoining forests and disappeared after committing the crime. Pallava said that additional forces had been rushed to the spot and a search operation was launched in the area.
