“Naxals have lost their influence in the last few years and their movement has become weak. They don’t have any ideology. They are mainly targeting poor people from the area where government and administration have weak communication with people and where there is no road, digital and physical connectivity,” opined Sandeep Patil, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Gadchiroli Range . Patil was interacting with mediapersons at SP Office in Gondia on Saturday. Superintendent of Police Vishwa Paansare, Additional SP Atul Kulkarni and LCB incharge PI Babban Awhad were also present on the occasion. Speaking further, Patil said that Naxals were getting involved poor and illiterate people from the remote areas by terrorising them.

But now, they are mainly engaged in extortion activities. With the activeness of police administration, their activities in Gondia district have been restricted to bordering areas and now they are resulting more violent activities in neighbouring areas of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh states. “The outlaws are trying to mobilise their activities and trying to re-activate their cadres in MMC (Maharashtra – Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh) states.

The AOP (armed out post) at Murkotdoh has become functional which is strategically very important to check the Naxal movement at the trijunction of three states of Maharashtra – Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Considering the current situation, the security forces of three states are carrying joint action and that has helped us in checking the Naxal activities,” Patil said. Talking about pending subject of district jail, he assured to discuss the issue with Home Minister Anil Deshmukh. To bridge the communication gap between police and public at village and urban areas, Patil said that they would form Gram Suraksha Dal in rural areas and on same lines would consider to have Ward Suraksha Dal in city areas and Police Mitra Samiti at Beat level. In every village Mahila Suraksha Samiti will also be activated , DIG added. To regularise the traffic chaos in city SP Paansare informed that department has taken many steps towards it and would continue to do so for further improvement. DIG Patil asked the SP to look for the possibility of appointing Traffic Warden for the needed areas with the support of civic body or trade associations.
