Suggesting that Centre and State Governments should come together to find a way to reduce taxes on fuel, Former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu informed the mediapersons, “Central government is taking all efforts to reduce the problems faced by the common man due to the rising fuel prices.” On Friday Prabhu was in Nagpur where he spoke to media at Press Club.

Admitting the fact that the petroleum prices are rising continuously as 70 per cent of India’s fuel needs are dependent on the import of oil, Prabhu pointed out, “When fuel prices increase globally it impacts our prices also, where any Government can find itself helpless but our Government is taking efforts to ensure that this burden does not fall on the common man. Prabhu who is known for his statesmanship said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has initiated the work of generating one lakh MW of solar energy and 70,000 MW wind energy.” “This will bring a big change in our energy profile, improve our energy security and reduce our imports.

We will not justify the rise in petrol prices, at the same time all must understand the situation. Modi Government would never want common man to suffer. Considering that aspect, the Government is taking efforts to reduce the problems faced by the public due to rise in fuel prices,” Prabhu made it clear. “Several taxes are imposed on imported fuel by the Central government as well as state Governments because petroleum products do not come under GST. Only one tax would have been applicable on fuel,” Prabhu added. Replying to a querry Prabhu welcomed the Union Budget 2021-22 and called it visionary.
