After a lot of hue and cry, Bhandara Police have finally booked two staff nurses on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder in case of the gory fire incident at Bhandara’s District General Hospital. The two nurses were on duty on January 9 night when the incident had taken place. “A case of culpable homicide has been registered against two nurses who were found negligent in an investigation carried out in the case of a tragic fire accident that took place in the natal care unit at Bhandara.
 
The matter is being thoroughly investigated by DSP-level officers,” Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has tweeted. It may be recalled that 10 newborn babies had died in the fire at the hospital sending shock waves across the nation. Government had formed a committee to probe into the case. It is learnt that the report of the committee headed by Nagpur’s Divisional Commissioner Sanjeev Kumar held both the nurses responsible for dereliction of duty.
 
The nurses were not present in the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) were the fire broke out, it stated. Police carried out investigation under SDPO Sakoli Arun Waikar after which on Friday, a case under section 304 (Part - II) and 34 of IPC was registered against the nurses Smita Sanjaykumar Ambilduke (34), a resident of Gramsewak Colony, Bhandara and Shubhangi Yadavrao Sathwane ( 32), a resident of Civil Lines area. of Bhandara. Earlier, the then District Civil Surgeon Dr Pramod Khandate and some other health officials were put under suspension and CM Uddhav Thackeray had ordered to form committee under Divisional Commissioner to carry the probe into the incident. Now, SDPO Sanjay Patil, Bhandara, conducting further investigaiton in the case.
