Chhattisgarh Government has taken a total of Rs 36,170 crore loan in the form of market loan through the Reserve Bank of India, Rural Infrastructure Development Fund of NABARD, GST loan through the Central Government and Asian Development / World Bank during the last two years, said Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel replying to a question asked by BJP MLA Shivratan Sharma during the Question Hour of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly on Tuesday. MLA Sharma asked in the House about how much loan was taken by the State Government from December 2018 to January 2021 and from which agencies.

In response to the answer given by the Chief Minister, MLA Sharma said that the Chief Minister has replied to question No. 37, asked by the Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik that a loan burden of Rs 41,239 crore was there as on December 1, 2018. MLA Sharma wanted to know which one (Rs 36,170 cr or Rs 41,239) is the correct. The Chief Minister said that both the questions are different and advised to go to the Reference Committee of the House. The opposition members objected to the Chief Minister’s reply.

MLA Sharma then asked how much revenue expenditure and capital expenditure was incurred. In reply Baghel said it is not possible to tell this. The Government spends the amount according to need. Sharma asked about the maximum limit for taking loan of the state government and in reply Baghel said that loans up to 25% of GSDP can be taken. The State Government has just taken 20 per cent loan.
