DURG,

Due to the absence of anesthesia specialist, they were left suffering outside the maternity room for hours

Nearly, 8 to 10 women suffered from labour pain for hours outside the maternity room at District Hospital, Durg on Thursday. All these pregnant women had to have a caesarean delivery on Thursday. But due to the absence of anesthesia specialist, they were left suffering outside the maternity room for hours.

The cesarean delivery of these women could be done only after 12:00 pm, when Civil Surgeon Dr P Balkishore arranged an anesthetist as alternative arrangement. Dr P Balkishore informed that show cause notice will be issued to anesthesia expert Dr Sheetal Yadav, who was absent on duty without information. As per the information, on Thursday morning around 8 to 10 women were to have caesarean delivery from 8:00 am in the District Hospital Durg, for which all the women along with their families had reached the maternity room in the district hospital.

The doctors were also present in the labour room, but for caesarean delivery, the patient needs to be sedated before the operation, which requires an anesthesia specialist. But the anesthesia expert Dr Sheetal Yadav who was to be on duty was absent. The physicians of the maternity room apprised the Civil Surgeon Dr Punit Balkishore about this. As such Dr Sheetal Yadav was contacted on her mobile by Dr Balkishore, but she did not received the call. Later, Civil Surgeon arranged an anesthetist after which the cesarean delivery were performed after 12:00 pm on arrival of the specialist doctor. All this took about four hours and the pregnant women had to suffer during this time.
