Nine persons die due to COVID-19 in city

Nagpur city witnessed nine deaths due to novel coronavirus in one single day on Thursday. For the last one month the number of deaths remained below three in city. But on Thursday the city registered nine deaths. Nagpur rural reported two deaths taking the cumulative number to 3,561 in Nagpur District. With constant rise in number of new COVID-19 cases in one single day, people in district are experiencing scary atmosphere.
 
Till now the death count was quite low. In fact, till last two days for the last two months, Nagpur district kept witnessing very low death count. With sudden rise in deaths due to the deadly virus on Thursday, the administration may be compelled to take some concrete steps. In some solace to the fearful citizens, recoveries in one single day cossed 1,000 mark in the district on Thursday. Similarly, the district witnessed over 1,000 persons testing positive for coronavirus in one single day on second consecutive day as the district registered 1,112 new cases. In Nagpur rural, swab samples of 288 persons tested positive for this dreaded virus while samples of 826 persons from city tested positive. With these the cumulative positive reached 1,45,897. This is for the first time in last over six months that number of persons recovered in one single day has crossed 1,000 mark. With 1,028 persons became free from coronavirus, the cumulative recovery reached 1,35,258. The recovery rate remained 92.12%. It was the same on Wednesday. This has led to rise in number of active cases to 7,259. Fortunately, people are coming forward to get themselves tested for COVID-19. This has led to rise in daily number crossing 10,000 mark.
 
On Thursday, the testing count of Nagpur rural stood at 4,245 while city reported 6,366 testing. Number of testing in one single day was 10,611 taking the cumulative testing to 12,08,400. The samples examined through RT PCR were 5,961 while 4,650 were through Rapid Antigen Test. Apart from the samples of Nagpur district, the people from Nagpur and out of city approached various laboratories in Nagpur to get themselves examined. The samples came for examination at various laboratories in Nagpur include virology laboratory of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (1,242), Government Medical College and Hospital (1,442), molecular diagnostic laboratory of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (997), National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (271), Centre for Zoonosis, Nagpur Veterinary College affiliated to Maharashtra Animal Fisheries Sciences University (0), Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (511) private laboratories (1,498), Antigen (4,650).

Dr Prakash Amte tests positive NOted social worker, Dr Prakash Amte of the Lok Biradari project at Hemalkasa has tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday. He has been admitted to a private hospital in Nagpur. Dr Amte had cough and cold for last eight days. His test that was done on Wednesday which came negative. But as his condition did not improve another test was done at Chandrapur which came positive. Dr Amte has appealed people who have come in his contact to get themselves tested. Meanwhile, tourists would not be allowed to visit Lok Biradari project, Anandvan at Warora and Somnath project, informed Aniket Amte.
