‘Justice will be done to deserving sportspersons’

Minister directs to identify spot for international standard Shooting Range in Nava Raipur 
 
Justice will be done with deserving sportspersons of Chhattisgarh, assured Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Umesh Patel, when asked about confusion over Excellent Sportsperson Award. “Guideline will be strictly adhered to at the time of deciding status of excellent sportspersons and those deserving will only be felicitated. The file regarding this has been received. I have not yet gone through the proposal in detail. But I can assure you that rules will be followed and justice will be done,” the Minister said, while talking to The Hitavada.
 
It is to be mentioned, a committee comprising officials of sports department and office bearers of Chhattisgarh Olympic Association prepared a proposal making some amendments in the rules of Excellent Sportsperson which had triggered sharp reaction among sportspersons and office-bearers of various sports bodies across the state. Some sportspersons took the fight to street by staging demonstration at the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare Department and Chhattisgarh Olympic Association office. Sports Director Shweta Sinha and CGOA general secretary Gurucharan Singh Hora had also assured the sportspersons of justice.
 
They told them that it is wrong to say that only gold medalists will be given Excellent Sportsperson status. In reply to another query regarding Khel Alankaran Samaroh, which was postponed in 2020 due to Covid-19 pandemic, the Minister said that the Alankaran Samaroh will be held this year. The Minster also said that Chhattisgarh will host the National Games after the Goa National Games which is due is over, said the Minister.
 
The Minister asked the office bearers of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Rifle Association to identify a spot in Nava Raipur for developing a shooting range of international standard on the proposal of the association office bearers. The Minister said that the range should be developed in such a way that it can host national and international events. The office-bearers of the Rifle Association suggested the Minister that the model of Shooting Range in Bhopal can be replicated in Chhattisgarh. The Minister assured of all support as it will be beneficial for all in future.
