Maghi Punni Mela has begun on the confluence of Pairi, Sondhur and Mahanadi at Rajim in Gariaband district on Saturday. Speaker of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Dr Charan Das Mahant inaugurated “Rajim Maghi Punni Mela” on the holy confluence of Pairi, Sondhur and Mahanadi at Rajim on Saturday. Minister for Home, Jail, Public Works Department, Religious Endowment and Tourism Tamradhwaj Sahu presided over the function.
 
Abhanpur MLA Dhanendra Sahu, Rajim MLA Amitesh Shukla, other public representatives, religious scholars and officers were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Speaker Dr Mahant said that Rajim Maghi Punni Mela is a part of Chhattisgarhi culture. The people of Chhattisgarh take pride in their culture and are closely linked to it, Dr Mahant said. Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu and others also spoke. Artists Aaru Sahu and Urvashi Sahu performed in the Rajim Maghi Punni Mela on Saturday evening.
 
Devotees in large number from various parts of the state took holy dip in the confluence of Pairi, Sondhur and Mahanadi on Saturday morning. The devotees performed pooja-archana at Bhagwan Rajiv Lochan Mandir and Kuleshwarnath Mahadev Mandir. The devotees also visited Lomash Rishi Ashram, Rajrajeshwar, Dandaneshwar and Baba Garib Nath Mahadev. Eminent folk artists Kuleshwar Tamrakar and Mamta Chandrakar will perform on Sunday. 14 government departments have installed their stalls in the Maghi Punni Mela at Rajim. The Maghi Punni Mela will conclude on March 11.
