Shankar Pandey to represent India in Fencing World Cup

Shankar Pandey - the star player of Madhya Pradesh State Fencing Academy will represent team India at Fencing World Cup to be held at Kazan, Russia from March 19 to 23. Pandey’s selection for the World Cup was done based on his ranking by the Fencing Association of India for his outstanding performance in national fencing competitions. He will showcase his talent at World Cup in Fencing’s EP event. Pandey decided to learn fencing in 2014 and got enrolled to the State Fencing Academy.
 
Pandey said that his goal is to win a medal for the country and to make his parents’ dreams come true. Fencing Academy Chief Coach Bhupendra Singh said that Pandey is a very hard working, talented and passionate player. His passion in sports will definitely pave the way for his success. Pandey has won a gold medal for the country in Commonwealth Junior/ Cadet Fencing Championship held at England in the year 2018. He also won 14 medals, including one gold, 7 silver and 6 bronze medals for Madhya Pradesh in various national fencing competitions. He has also won 16 medals including 12 gold, two silver and two bronze in state-level facing competitions.
 
Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare Yashodhara Raje Scindia has expressed happiness and has also congratulated Pandey for his selection. She said that it is the result of high-level sports facilities being provided that our players are performing brilliantly and are brining laurels for Madhya Pradesh at international- levels. She congratulated Pandey for his best performance in the World Cup and wished him luck.
