In another success to Raipur Police against the illegal business of drugs, a police team from Khamtarai on Wednesday claimed to have seized huge quantities of sedative pills by arresting five accused peddlers. “Acting on a precise tip-off about people selling sedative drugs behind Banjari Temple, a police team from Khamtarai swung into action and nabbed five persons along with recovery of sedative pills.
 
During questioning, the accused failed to furnish any documents supporting possession of the drugs,” said police sources. The arrested were identified as Atul Sharma (40), Vineet Shukla (31), Narendra Sharma (42), trio residents of Kabir Nagar; Padum Kumar Singh (19) and Yuvraj Sharma (23), both residents of Urla. From the possession of arrested accused peddlers, around 10,000 pieces of sedative pills. “Investigation is underway to ascertain the source from where the accused peddlers have procured the drugs.
 
Action will be taken against people whose name will be surfaced in the case,” said police sources. Khamtarai police have registered an offence against the accused under relevant Section of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, said police sources. In another case, Khamtarai police arrested a 23-year-old man identified as Mukesh Madhukar, a resident of Birgaon under Urla police station, along with 388 pieces of sedative pills. The accused was booked under relevant NDPS Act.
