CITY’S star swimmer Rutuja Talegaonkar set the pool on fire as she claimed second position in as many as five events during the selections trials for World University Games (WUG), on Wednesday. Rutuja, a student of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar College, Deekshabhoomi, is participating in the selection trials for a place in Association of Indian University (AIU) team which will participate in WUG to be held at Chengdu in China in the month of August. Representing Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU), Rutuja dazzled in the pool at Jain University, Bengaluru and won second places in 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle, 1500m freestyle, 200 metres individual medley and 400 metres individual medley.

In all probability Rutuja will be selected in the AIU team after her superb performance. At the Khelo India Games and University Khelo India Games, Rutuja had won bagful of medals. Similarly, in the all India inter-university swimming meet she had won many medals, informs a press release issued by Dr Sharad Suryawanshi, Director, Department, Physical Education and Sports, RTMNU. Another swimmer Rishika Bodele of Taywade College, Koradi could not participate in the trials as she was tested positive for COVID-19.
