In a shocking incident, a six-year-old male leopard was shot dead in Amjhera jungle of Dhar district on Friday. Experts said that body of a youth was found on the same spot about two days back. Officials believe that it was revengeful act by someone belongs to the deceased.
 
STF Forest is investigating the case. Last rites of leopard has been conducted following NTCA guidelines and samples have been preserved for further laboratory testing.
 
While searching in Bordabara jungle, forest team spotted the carcass of six-year-old leopard. District Forest Officer (DFO) of Dhar Akshay Singh Rathore said, “Leopard has been shot dead by an unidentified person. Bullet was recovered on the back of carcass.” He further said that case has been forwarded to STF for further investigation. The leopard died in one bullet.
 
He further said that two days back, a 35-year-old youth was found dead at 20 feet distance from the same spot. Body was critically injured by a wild animal. While on way to hospital, he died.
 
Forest team was planning to place cage on the spot to capture the leopard. The team was trying to search best location for cage meanwhile carcass of leopard was found.
 
Post-mortem report revealed that leopard was shot about 15 hours before. Three veterinary doctors conducted the post-mortem of leopard. STF has assigned staff in nearby areas. Movement of general public around the area has been seized by STF.
 
Leopard kills 11-month-old girl
The eleven-month-old girl injured in leopard attack on March 11 succumbed to injuries during treatment at local hospital on Friday. Deceased family has been rewarded compensation amount by the Forest Department. She was being treated in a private hospital of Limboda village. A leopard from Ralamandal Wildlife Sanctuary strayed into residential area of Limboda on March 11 and later he was rescued by the forest team. The leopard had attacked four people, including three from same family. Rescue operation continued by forest team for more than 23 hours. Locals of the area were scared of incident and they refused to step out of home. On March 10, leopard was spotted in Shivdham Colony of New Ranibag area at Khandwa Road. Next day forest team started search of the cat and found it in Limboda. When rescue team was following leopard, it entered to house of Khemraj Rathore and attacked two. Then leopard entered to other house attacked two children. Aggrieved residents reached to the spot with lathy in their hand but leopard ran away from the spot. The 11 months old girl Bhumika was also injured during the incident. Officials of Forest Department were also injured in the incident. Rescue team tranquillised the leopard with help of gun and then enclosed it in a cage. The cat has been sent to Indore zoo for further treatment. After treating the leopard, it will be released into wild.
