A female leopard was rescued in cage placed by the Forest Department in Behariya village of Badwani on Monday morning. The cage was installed on the place for five days. The five-year-old female leopard will be released into Omkareshwar jungle. According to forest officials, last week three leopards were sighted in the area. The area is adjoining Toranmal jungle of Maharashtra due to which big cats remain active there in search of food and water.

Last year during September a woman was mauled to death and during August, a teenage girl was killed by leopard in the same village. Several villages, including Dhawari, Tillikhet, Charli Petha, etc are very close to Satpuda valleys in Badwani. Big cats movement remains very common in this area to kill the cattle. Locals of the area were scared of leopard and they did not let their kids step out of home during evening hours.

They were working in the field in group to stay alert. On March 15, labourers working in the field sighted three leopards. On March 16, Forest Department placed cages to capture the leopard. On Monday, a leopard was captured in the cage. The leopard has been sent to Pansemal for further medical treatment and then it will be released into Omkareshwar wild.
