Police prevent several incidents, recover over 300 knives

119 minors have purchased knives following which they were contacted and the sharp-edged weapons were recovered by the cops
 
 
By launching a massive campaign against people, who purchased knives online in 2020, Raipur Police have recovered around 318 knives. “Based on the information provided by e-commerce company Flipkart, Raipur Police have recovered 318 knives and analysis of the provided details revealed that 119 minor have also placed the order for purchase of knives. Amid incidents of knifing and other crimes, Raipur Police approached thee-commerce company to provide details about people who ordered knives online in 2020,” said Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Lakhan Patle. Patle further informed that the e-commerce company had provided details about 502 persons, of which 282 were hailing from adjacent districts.
 
The details of these people will be provided to the police of respective districts for the further course of action. Moreover, a letter of appreciation will be issued to Flipkart for their cooperation in prevention of knifing incidents. As per the details of 2020 provided by the e-commerce company, Raipur Police launched a massive campaign resulting in the recovery of knives in huge numbers, said ASP Patle, elaborating that soon the details of 2018 and 2019 will also be collected for launching another phase of the campaign. Raipur Police will also contact other e-commerce companies to collect details about people ordering knives online, added the officer. ASP Patle informed that the details provided by Flipkart revealed that 119 minors have purchased knives online following which they were contacted and the sharp-edged weapons were recovered by informing their parents. None of the parents were aware that their child purchased a knife through an online platform. In only one case, parents were aware about the online purchase of knives as it was ordered for kitchen use. Maximum knives were recovered from people residing in the limits of Khamtarai, DD Nagar, Civil Lines and Telibandha. Of total recoveries, 11 knives were recovered from people with previous criminal records following which they were booked under Arms Act, said ASP Patle.
