HOLLOW WORDS_1

THE process of disengagement of Chinese and Indian troops under way in eastern Ladakh is a long-drawn effort and also cast in the dark shadow of China’s deceitful behaviour. The Chinese military has claimed that situation in eastern Ladakh had eased distinctly, giving an impression to the world that its troops has backed out from the friction points after the longest stand-off with Indian forces.

Hollowness in the words cannot be missed by experts and analysts who are fully aware of China’s playbook for border disputes. The country is locked into territorial disputes with many other nations but only in the case of India, it had to back out. The disengagement process, though, if full of dubious intentions and India is awake to the reality. The Indian Army has been pitching for a faster disengagement process in areas like Hot Springs, Gogra and Depsang but China has been dragging its feet on the issue by complying on the agreed terms only at Pangong Tso lake.

Whatever picture China tries to present to the world, the fact remains that there is palpable tension on the Sino-Indian border at many points. India cannot afford to lower its guard any moment despite China’s sweet talk on the process.
