Member of Parliament Rakesh Singh, on Friday, met Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Hardeep Singh Puri and handed over a memorandum to name Jabalpur Airport after Rani Durgavati, speed up airport expansion work and increase other passenger amenities.

Singh urged the Civil Aviation Minister to take advance action for naming the airport after Rani Durgawati. He also informed him that Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan has also given a letter regarding the same.

Singh further informed that airport expansion work is going on in Jabalpur and urged him to direct for expediting the same. He also requested the Union Minister to increase air services in Jabalpur so that entire Mahakoshal region can get the benefit of it. Singh also held discussion with the Union Minister over starting new air service from Jabalpur. Aviation Minister Puri assured Singh that the proposal for renaming the airport after Rani Durgawati would be approved by sending it to the cabinet and the development and expansion of Jabalpur Airport would also gain momentum. During discussion, the Union Minister informed that the airports that have been privatised got a 70 percent increase in the number of flyers with passenger facilities, whether it is Mumbai, New Delhi or airports of other cities.
