NOTORIOUS goon Ranjit Safelkar, involved in murder case of architect Eknath Nimgade and goon Manish Shrivas, was finally arrested by Nagpur Police on Tuesday. He will be handed over to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which is investigating murder case of architect Nimgade. Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar informed ‘The Hitavada’ that Safelkar was nabbed from the city itself on Tuesday evening. “Our teams are questioning him in connection with his involvement in gory crimes.

He would be handed over to CBI for further inquiry,” the CP said. It may be mentioned that in last fortnight, the CP addressed two press conferences claiming to have solved murder mysteries of Eknath Nimgade and Manish Shrivas. In both the murder cases, Safelkar was the prime accused, the CP had said. Safelkar, once a labourer in Kamptee town, rose to become a dreaded goon in last two decades. Earlier, he was indulging in petty crimes. After forming a gang, he was involved in several types of crimes especially property matters. He was also active in politics and controlling sand mining in some areas. In Nimgade murder case, Safelkar received the contract from ‘someone’ and roped in another goon Sharad alias Kalu Hatey in the crime.

The ‘someone’ was eyeing Nimgade’s prime property worth more than Rs 200 crore. According to police, Safelkar and Hatey contacted another goon Nawab alias Chhote Sahab Ashrafi alias Nubbu and fixed the contract at Rs five crore. They called shooters from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh and shot dead Nimgade near Agrasen Chowk on September 6, 2016. Before killing Nimgade, Safelkar had killed notorious goon Manish Shrivas on March 4, 2012. Shrivas was taken to a house situated in the fields near Pawangaon (Dhargaon) on Kamptee-Kalamna Road where he was killed by the accused. His body was brought to another house at Kamptee in a Santro car. They then chopped the body into several small pieces and stuffed them in gunny bags. The accused then dumped the bags in a nearby forest. The Nagpur police announced on March 27 that the case was solved and three goons Kalu Hate, Bharat Hate and Hemant Gorkha were arrested.

Fearing encounter, Safelkar moved HC promising surrender before CBI APPREHENDING his arrest and fearing encounter, dreaded goon Ranjit Safelkar had knocked the doors of the High Court claiming false implication in architect Eknath Nimgade murder case following a roving enquiry and promised to surrender before the CBI. In his affidavit filed before the High Court, Safelkar claimed that he had no connection with Nimgade or land owned by him. The crime chart made public by Nagpur Police was part of his reply filed during his anticipatory bail application way back in 2016, Safelkar claimed while admitting his criminal antecedents. The last offence was registered against him in 2007 and then in 2016 but since then he was leading a crime-free life, he claimed in the petition. Safelkar claiming threat to his life claimed that under the guise of free hand, he will be gunned down and sought protection from the High Court till he surrenders before the CBI or avail legal remedy to secure protection from competent court.
