One patient ended his life in GMC&H while another took the extreme step at his house
 
 
Two COVID-19 patients have allegedly committed suicide in separate cases in Ajni police station area. One of them ended his life in COVID ward of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), police officials said. In the first case, an 81-year-old COVID-19 patient allegedly ended his life in GMC&H. The incident took place on Monday at around 5 pm when the patient, identified as Purushottam Aappaji Gajbhiye, went to the bathroom in the COVID-19 ward of GMC&H.
 
He allegedly hanged himself there from an exhaust fan with an oxygen pipe, the police official said. Around 5.30 pm, a sanitation worker found the bathroom door locked from inside and knocked. When there was no response for some time, the worker called his colleague and broke open the door and found the patient hanging inside. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone-IV Dr Akshay Shinde informed ‘The Hitavada’ that Gajbhiye was a resident of Rambagh area and was admitted to the hospital’s COVID-19 ward on March 26 after he tested positive for novel coronavirus. However, the reason behind his extreme step could not be ascertained so far.
 
Ajni police have registered a case of accidental death. In yet another incident, a 64-year-old COVID-19 patient committed suicide at his house in 85 plots area of Ajni police station on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Vasant Rajaram Kute (68), a resident of 1485 plot, Deoghare Nagar. Kute and his three family members tested positive for COVID-19 on March 26. He was also suffering from problem of kidney stone. After consuming oral medicine of COVID-19, Kute was suffering from unbearable pain in stomach for last three days, said Sr Police Inspector Vinod Chaudhary of Ajni police station. He hanged himself from a hook of elevation with rope and ended his life on Tuesday at 6.30 am, PI Chaudhary said. The incident came to fore when his family members noticed the body early in the morning. Staff of Ajni police station rushed to the spot after alerted by the family members. A case of accidental death was registered by Ajni police. Further investigation is on.
 
Gajbhiye’s body was lying for eight hours Some shocking facts came to fore in Gajbhiye’s suicide case. Sources claimed that Gajbhiye committed suicide Monday at around 9 am and the body was lying in the toilet till 5 pm. When asked DCP Dr Shinde said that time of death would be ascertained only during investigation.
