CLEAN DEAL

THE assertion by Dassault Aviation that supplied to the Indian Air Force (IAF) ultra-modern Rafale jet fighters, that there were no irregularities in the deal, should bring to end the controversy if the French manufacturer had paid a 1.1 million Euro bribe to some middleman, as was alleged by a media investigation in France. Some political vested interests in India were trying to prove that corrupt practices were involved in the Rafale deal, though it was made clear that in the Government-to-Government contract, no such possibilities ever be entertained. With the clear-cut assertion by Dassault Aviation, this uncalled for controversy should be put behind us. For, it serves no end raising doubts about the integrity of such deals in the zone of national security and strategic affairs. It is time the Opposition leaders also restrain themselves from raising the otherwise ‘dead’ issue time and again only to embarrass the Government in general and Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi in particular. Actually, nothing of that sort happens since the Government’s conscience and action are absolutely clear and transparent on the issue. It is time the Opposition understood this fact and ended the controversy.
