Government decides to start PG Medical and Research Institute

The Medical Education and Research Department in Maharashtra has decided to set up Post Graduate (PG) Medical and Research Institute. Meanwhile, the Government has also announced to start new medical college with 100 intake and 450-bed hospital.
 
The initiative regarding developing PG Medical Institute was taken by Dr Dileep Mhaisekar, former Vice-Chancellor of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS).
 
The Medical College will be started as directed by the Central Government and the National Medical Commission and the day-to-day operation and management, supervision, management and control of this college will be done by the University. Establishment matters for the hospital will be handled with the approval of the competent authority. As per the order received, the District General Hospital under the Public Health Department will be provided free to the Medical Education and Drugs Department on a temporary basis.
 
While talking to ‘The Hitavada’ Dr Mhaisekar said, “I had wished we should have specialisation in subjects like Virology, Epedemiology, Biotechnology. Amit Deshmukh, Minister of Medical Education has extended full support and now PGI would come into existence. I am really thankful to the Minister.”
 
Medical education teaching method will be developed by Maharashtra Post Graduate Medical Education and Research Institute. Emphasis will also be laid on producing medical specialists in various disciplines. In-depth research conducted by these experts in the field of health will help in expanding the horizons of medical knowledge. The objectives of the institute are to provide high quality patient care, to achieve self-sufficiency in postgraduate medical education, to meet the state requirement of highly qualified medical teachers, to provide educational facilities to train staff in all important branches of healthcare, to provide basic services in the medical field. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 100 crore.
