Kunopalpur sends annual work plan for Cheetah translocation

Kunopalpur National Park of Madhya Pradesh would be welcoming African spotted cat as primary report of the team surveying in the park for past 25 days has been released.
 
The team has recommended few changes in the national park. It is believed that team has sought some changes which means they are considering the habitat suitable for Cheetah. Surveying team said for grass management, covering the wells with net, filling up the patches, cutting of pointed herbs, etc. Based on the report, national park has prepared its annual work plan and sent it to the wildlife wing of MP Forest Department and Union Government. Park management has demanded 22 crores for the preparation. The team would be surveying in the park for three more weeks.
 
After bringing from African countries, Cheetah will not be released into wild on immediate basis while they will be kept in enclosure for health check up, adjustment in new climate and quarantine period. The team has said to prepare special enclosure in five sqkm of area where they will be kept. The team has said to maintain grassland at three feet of height, remove the stone walls from grassland, etc preparation.
 
After demanded amount will be approved by the Government, park management will started working on the plan. After Kunopalpur, the team will be visiting Madhav National Park, Nauradehi and Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary for further studies. In its previous report, WII team said that Cheetah can be translocated at all the three sites identified in Madhya Pradesh. But Kunopalpur is ready to get Cheetah immediately and remaining sites need preparation time and investment too. About 400 sqkm of area has been developed in Nauradehi according to Cheetah. The sanctuary is working for habitat development since a decade. This is the ambitious project of MP Forest Department. Earlier, department was working to bring Asiatic lion from Gujarat. As State did not show interest to give its lion, experts planned to bring spotted cat from African countries.
