Number of tests in Nagpur district hits all-time high

Panicky about coronavirus as the pandemic is at its peak, people are thronging laboratories for testing. Most people are going for multiple testings due to which the number of new cases looks swelled. Today, in Nagpur district, 7,201 persons tested positive for the novel coronavirus taking the cumulative positive cases to 2,78,556 (1,095 persons are from outside Nagpur district). Number of new cases registered on Sunday is a new all-time high, of those 7 persons are from outside Nagpur district. Nagpur rural has registered 2,553 new cases while 4,641 came positive for this virus in city. Most hospitals are facing the issue of non-availability of beds, every person even testing positive for coronavirus is approaching hospitals. Healthworkers though are trying hard, the situation is getting worsened. COVID-19 death count continues to haunt the administration and healthworkers too.

Today too 63 persons succumbed to this dreaded virus of which 20 became victims in Nagpur rural while 36 died of the virus in city. With these the cumulative death count reached 5,769 (913 persons died due to coronavirus were the residents from the places outside Nagpur district). On Sunday, 3,240 persons recovered from coronavirus taking the cumulative recovery to 2,17,313. The recovery is less than half the number of persons testing positive resulting in dwindling the recovery rate. Today, the district registered 78.01% recovery rate.

This has resulted in rise in number of active cases to 55,474. Number of testings reported on Sunday has witnessed whopping rise of 6,000 as today’s number stood at 26,007. Nagpur rural and city, both have crossed the 10,000 mark as city registered 14,906 testing while rural reported 11,101 testing. This has taken the cumulative testing number to 18,27,244. The samples examined through RTPCR were 16,643 while 9,364 were through Rapid Antigen Test. Apart from the samples of Nagpur district, the people from Nagpur and out of city approached various laboratories in Nagpur to get themselves examined. The samples came for examination at various laboratories in Nagpur include virology laboratory of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) (2,194), Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) (1,799), molecular diagnostic laboratory of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) (1,622), National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) (277), Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) (906) private laboratories (9,845), Antigen (9,364).

Private hospitals continue to suffer sans Remdesivir stock With shortage of Remdesivir injections, the private hospitals have continued to suffer. According to Vidarbha Hospitals Association (VHA), fact remains almost all hospitals are now getting admissions of Group E and F categories along with RTPCR negative but CT Scan positive and Group D complications. So they all require Remdesivir injections mostly. Moreover, it is the treating clinician’s prerogative to prescribe Remdesivir after assessment of patient. But patients and their relatives fight with hospital management if not given the drug. Hence rather than fault findings or blame game of any kind, judicious usage and unbiased supply of drug to each hospital as per their requirements is crucial. Adding more beds cannot and should not be undertaken without assurance of regular oxygen and Remdesivir supply. It is thus clear that there is no need of day care services or remdesivir injections to other groups. Accordingly, no need to supply to retailers, VHA makes it clear.
