WITH lockdown effected to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, the traffic police launched a vehicle checking drive at fix-points and they have challaned as many as 526 erring riders for flouting traffic regulations including 210 riders for not wearing mask. During the special checking drive the offences were registered against commuters under relevant sections of Epidemic Act for not wearing masks. According to information, with lockdown effected to check spread of the pandemic in coordination with the district force traffic police officials and personnel are maintaining vigil at all traffic intersections and fix-points for ensuring effective compliance of all lockdown norms.
 
The police are also initiating punitive measures in the cases in which the people were found venturing out without sound reasons or after the relaxation time for buying daily needs. Gurjeet Singh, Dy SP, Traffic Police Department informed that in accordance of directives of district administration and under guidance of Superintending of Police (SP), Durg, Prashant Thakur, the traffic police chalked out the strategy and implemented the same in best interest people in general by strict implementation of lockdown norms.
 
He informed that as part of measures for ensuring effective compliance of lockdown norms, traffic police teams are maintaining vigil at as may as 19 fixed points in twin city of Bhilai and Durg and at suburban. Dy SP also added that in coordination with district force traffic police are undertaking the checking drive and the cases of violation of sections of Epidemic Act were being forwarded to the police stations concerned for legal action. About 186 traffic police officials and personnel including 3 Sub-inspectors, 16 Assistant Sub-inspectors have been deployed for duty. The traffic police have also constituted 10 bike patrolling and 4 highway patrolling teams.
