Sunil Kedar, Maharashtra Minister for Animal Husbandry, Sports and Youth Welfare, had taken efforts for conversion of WCL's hospital to provide primary healthcare facility for novel coronavirus patients in rural parts of area. About 29 patients are undergoing treatment in the said hospital that has 48 beds as per COVID norms of distancing. Today morning, when a female relative of one of the women reached the hospital, she was told the sad news. All hell broke loose as the women and her relatives went berserk and damaged the glass separation at the counter, glass of main door, two wheel chairs, sanitizer spray and other assorted material. The group was simply uncontrollable as they alleged that doctors failed to take proper steps and hence, their relative has died. A police posse from Kanhan Police Station rushed to spot for containing the situation. Bagwan, Probationary Sub Divisional Police Officer, Police Inspector Sujitkumar Kshirsagar and other police officers held talks with the irked relatives and calmed them down.

Their tactful handling of situation restored peace at the hospital and helped staff to carry on with the immediate task of taking care of COVID-19 positive patients. The relatives of deceased woman alleged that shortage of oxygen resulted in death of the four patients on Tuesday morning. However, doctors maintained that, the patients were already in serious condition when they were brought in for admission by the relatives who earlier tried to search for vacant beds in Nagpur city. By the time the four COVID-19 positive were admitted, the oxygen saturation level was already low and they tried their best to stabilised them.

Though Collector hurriedly declared WCL's Hospital as Dedicated Covid Hospital, it still lacks critical equipment like ventilators that are needed when patients face difficulty in breathing. Later Rakesh Ola, Superintendent of Police, Nagpur Rural, visited the hospital and inspected the spot. Abhash Singh, General Manager, WCL, also reached the spot and talked to doctors and staff. Shiv Kumar Yadav, President, HMS, Babloo Barve, Deputy Sarpanch, Kandri Gram Panchayat, Karuna Ashtankar, President, Kanhan Municipal Council, Naresh Barve, President, INTUC, Nagpur, Pappu Zama, Shakeel Ansari also visited the hospital and inquired with relatives about well being of admitted patients. Apart from WCL's doctors, a team from Primary Health Centre too are attached to the hospital. Dr Vijaya Mane, In-charge of J N Hospital, Dr Ansari, Tehsil Health Officer, are supervising the treatment of patients. Dr Gajanan Dhurve, Health Officer, Parsheoni, was also present. The Nagpur Rural Police have now deployed a contingent of police force in the hospital campus to avoid such incidents in future.
