With joint effort of community and local administration, the transmission of COVID-19 infection in two separate villages of Mahasamund district was contained. The efforts made by the community and the administration in containing the spread of disease at village Kutela and Toresingha under Saraipali block of the district was praised by the officials of the central team. According to information received, after people in both the villages were tested positive for COVID-19 and the areas were declared containment zones, panchayats along with the health department as well as local administration initiated several steps to check the transmission and provide assistance to infected people. Local administration and panchayat ensured availability of health facilities as well as daily consumable items to infected people in containment zones.
 
A centrally appointed team that recently visited the villages on April 12 had also praised the joint efforts made by panchayats and local administration in containment of the infection. The contact tracing task rapidly and efficiently accomplished by teachers, who have been assigned with the task, the possibility of infection’s spread was lowered, said officials, elaborating that both the village panchayats voluntarily opted lockdown like restriction and the entire areas were sanitized by declaring it as containment zones.
 
In the infected areas, village panchayats had developed one-way road for ensuring essential items to people, said officials, elaborating that teachers, police forces, sarpanch, aanganbadi workers and others have been assigned with the task of caring and monitoring infected people. Officials in Mahasamund, Baghbahara, Pithora, Basna and Saraipali have been directed to ensure arrangement of 20 oxygen cylinders at COVID Care Centres developed by the District Health Department. The cylinder of 200 pound will supply oxygen to a patient all day. Public representatives, traders, officials and workers have extended their support in maintaining the availability of oxygen and other essential medicines in COVID Care Centres.
