IN a fire mishap a speeding ambulance caught fire and it reduced to scrap at four-lane highway in Bhilai-3 on Thursday noon. At the time of mishap only the driver was on wheels and he managed to escape unhurt. Police sources informed that at about 3 pm on Thursday, a speeding ambulance all of a sudden caught fire and soon it was engulfed into flames with emission of thick smoke at highway near Purani Bhilai Police Station in Bhilai-3. After information the well equipped fire fighting squads from District Home Guard Department reached the troubled location immediately and doused fire. In the meantime a Purani Bhilai police team also reached the spot and cordoned off the area while checking possibility of any eventuality.
 
The police got removed the ill fated vehicle for ensuring smooth vehicular traffic at the highway. The police said that at the time of mishap no patient was in the ambulance and only the driver Ghanshyam Deshmukh was on wheels. He managed to jump off the vehicle and escaped unhurt as it caught fire. The ambulance is belonging to Life Care Diagnostic Center, Supela, Bhilai and it was heading to Sunshine Hospital, Bhilai-3 when it caught fire, the police said adding that possibly short circuit caused the mishap. In another fire mishap, two motorbikes, parked at Russian Complex in Sector-7, Bhilai, caught fire and destroyed completely on Thursday at about 1 pm. On information the fire fighting squads from District Home Guard Department reached the spot and extinguished fire. In this incident police are suspecting involvement of miscreants but there was no such conformation to support the assumption till filing of this report.
