City starts sweltering as
April is the month of continuous rise in day temperature with fall of pressure. Winds are generally dry and from westerly direction, becoming moderate to strong on a few days during afternoon hours, causing discomfort. When the western disturbances move across north India, moist air from the sea is drawn into the interior, giving rise to thunderstorm on some occasions. These summer thunderstorm occur mostly during late afternoon or evening and are accompanied with strong winds or squall and sometimes association with hail.
 
The mean maximum temperature of Jabalpur is 38.5° C during first week of April and it rises to around 40.0° C towards the last week of the month. On few occasions it exceeds to 43.0° C. The average rainfall of this month is 4.8 mm while the average number of rainy days is 0.5 and average number of days of thunderstorm is 1.2. The relative humidity varies between 35 per cent to 19 per cent. The mean minimum temperature varies between 18.7° C to 13.1° C.
 
The highest maximum temperature of 45.4° C was recorded on April, 28 1970. Likewise, the lowest minimum temperature of 10.6 °C recorded on April 1, 1905. The highest total monthly rainfall of 59.2 mm was recorded in the year 1935 and the heaviest fall in 24 hours of 50.3 mm on April 3, 1935.
 
However, during last decade the highest maximum temperature of 42.9 degree Celsius was recorded on April 16 2017 and the lowest minimum temperature of 17.2 degree Celsius was recorded on April 5, 2013.
