Social media is flooded with messages and videos regarding use of homoeopathic medicine for boosting oxygen level in present crisis

Indian Institute of Homoeopathic Physicians (IIHP), an apex body of Homoeopathy Physician in India, has warned the individuals and homoeoptahic practitioners not to promote homoeopathic Nosode Vaccines and Mother Tincture Aspidosperma on social media. For last few days, number of video, statements, advertisements etc. have been viral on social media groups like WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc., regarding Nosode Vaccines Aspidosperma as preventive for covid-19 and as the ‘substitute for Oxygen’ for Covid Patients respectively.

When contacted Prof Dr Mukhtinder Singh, Chairman of IIHP Scientific Committee, said, “IIHP is receiving number of enquires from the homoeopathic professionals and general public on the efficacy and clinical utility of some homoeopathic Nosode Vaccines and Mother Tincture Aspidosperma. The committee had discussed this issue at length recently and came to the conclusion that, IIHP does not support or recommend those homoeopathic preparations advocated by individuals/groups for prevention and cure for Covid-19 which have not gone through standard clinical trials and clinical validation in a Government or Government approved Covid Care Centre.” Stating that IIHP diligently follows all advisories and guidelines issued by Ministry of Ayush from time to time, Dr Mukhtinder Singh mentioned, “Regarding the mother tincture Aspidosperma, it finds mention in our literature, as being useful to stimulate the respiratory centers in the brain and to increase the oxygen levels in the blood. One of the guiding symptoms is want of breath or breathlessness, presently found in critical Covid-19 patients.

However, we do not have clinically verified data with Covid-19 cases to categorically vouch for the efficacy of Aspidosperma. Unless and until clinical verification is carried out at the govt level we are walking on shaky ground.” On behalf of IIHP, Prof Dr Mukhtinder Singh urged the Government or regulatory health authority to immediately carry out clinical verification of Aspidosperma on Covid-19 patients, to know its efficacy (as mentioned in our literature), so that another tool is added to the kit of Covid-19 management.

“Utmost caution is urged on the part of homoeopaths while using the drug for even personal use. In this connection, IIHP would like to draw the attention of Homoeopathic fraternity on the latest legal view on treating the Covid infection, that homoeopathic intervention should be allowed as an adjutant therapy by a qualified graduate homoeopath in a Covid treating set up with proper permission from local health authorities,” he stated.
