Tambaram Perma Gadaram – a big copper vessel collected from the community of Chettiyar of Shivganga, Tamil Nadu was displayed on Monday under the latest and popular online series of Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS) ‘Exhibit of the Week’. The exhibit, with a of height of 101 cm and circumference of 251 cm, is displayed in the audience as The First Exhibit of April month through official website, Facebook, Instagram and twitter page of the IGRMS.
 
Director of IGRMS Praveen Kumar said that this series will focus on the masterpieces from its collection which are considered as unique for their contribution to the cultural history of a particular ethnic group or area. Tambaram Perma Gadaram is a large copper vessel used by the Chettiar community of Tamil Nadufor carrying and storing water. Chettiars are well known for their financial dealings and hospitality. They belong to a very prolific business community who in olden days travelled to foreign land for trade.
 
The huge vessel has a cylindrical body slightly flared towards the upper part. These kinds of large vessels were not easy to move and hence transported by bullock carts.The vessel has two rings like handles attached to the neck. It has a tapering shoulder, concave neck and flaring mouth. The mouth is covered with a handled lid.
