Taking serious cognisance of rising COVID-19 cases, Nagpur Municipal Corporation has decided to give momentum to vaccination drive. NMC feels people like auto-rickshaw drivers, delivery boys who stay for longer time with the public can be the super-spreader of this virus. Considering all these aspects, the civic body will be running a special drive of vaccination for such so-called ‘super-spreader’ that would commence on April 8.
 
 
This innovative initiative was launched by Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari and Municipal Commissioner Radhakrishnan B. Additional Commissioner of the Corporation Jalaj Sharma said that all the drivers would be vaccinated on April 8 by the corporation. Those who would be covered in this drive include auto-rickshaw drivers, cycle-rickshaw pullers, e-rickshaw drivers, black-yellow taxi drivers, drivers of companies like Ola-Uber and drivers working in other private travels will be vaccinated in Government hospitals as per Government rules. Drivers can also bring their family members with them for vaccination.
 
The citizens who deliver the parcels will take a jab on April 12 at Government hospitals. All citizens who deliver food, parcels are included in this category. People selling vegetables, fruits and milk will be vaccinated on April 14. Workers and hawkers will be vaccinated on April 16, media workers and journalists on April 18, traders and medical shopkeepers on April 20, restaurant and hotel workers on April 22 and sales and marketing workers on April 24. Those who visit the vaccination centres during their stipulated days, should carry Aadhar card or PAN card, driving license with them. Women to be vaccinated on every Wednesday Jalaj Sharma said that the percentage of women in the society is 50. They also need to be vaccinated. Special arrangements will be made for women in Government hospitals every Wednesday by the Municipal Corporation. The purpose of this campaign is to hold vaccination on a large scale for the safety of the citizens.
 
Cumulative COVID-19 recovery in Nagpur distt crosses 2 lakh mark

On fourth consecutive day on Tuesday, Nagpur district witnessed further improvement in recovery of COVID-19 cases. The cumulative COVID-19 recovery crossed 2 lakh mark on Tuesday. District’s recovery rate also went up to 81.13%. A good number of recovery is resulting in fall in active cases. Though there is a slight increase in active cases, it is not much. Daily recovery was not matching the number of new cases. But that gap has reduced drastically. Total 3,305 persons were declared recovered from COVID-19 taking the cumulative recovery to 2,01,916. With good recovery the number of active cases are witnessing fall. Today’s number of active cases is slightly more than the yesterday’s count.
 
Today’s count stood at 41,529. District has registered 3,758 new COVID -19 cases (Six persons those tested positive for the coronavirus are from outside the Nagpur district). Nagpur rural has reported 1,100 new COVID-19 cases while 2,652 tested positive for coronavirus in city. The cumulative positive cases reached 2,48,883 of which 1,063 persons are the residents of places from outside Nagpur district. As per the chart sent by District administration, 54 persons died of coronavirus in the district. The death count in Nagpur rural is 19 while 27 persons died of this dreaded virus in city. Of the 54 victims, 6 were the residents of places outside Nagpur district. With these the cumulative deaths reached 5,438 (881 persons who died in Nagpur were the residents of outside Nagpur district).
 
With everybody is going for testing the laboratories are experiencing crowding of the people. It is also being observed that in the queue in front of laboratories, the social distancing norms are getting violated. On Tuesday a good number of testing witnessed. Today’s testing count stood at 14,576. Nagpur rural has reported 5,557 testing while city has registered 9,019 testing. This has taken the cumulative testing count to 17,19,407. The samples examined through RT PCR were 9,487 while 5,089 were through Rapid Antigen Test. Apart from the samples of Nagpur district, the people from Nagpur and out of city approached various laboratories in Nagpur to get themselves examined.
 
The samples came for examination at various laboratories in Nagpur include virology laboratory of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) (2,299), Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) (2,587), molecular diagnostic laboratory of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) (1,433), National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) (240), Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) (725) private laboratories (2,203), Antigen (5,089).
