Notorious gangster of Pune, Gajanan Mane, was shifted to Nagpur’s Central Prison on Monday so as to break the communication line of the gang that has attained notoriety in the cultural capital of State. His erstwhile close aide, Nilesh Ghaywal was also shifted out of Yerwada Prison and lodged seperately in Amravati Central Prison. Confirming the development, Anup Kumre, Superintendent, Central Prison, said that Mane was brought amidst heavy bandobast and lodged here.

Mane is top-most gangster in Pune and was nabbed in joint operations from Satara. He shot into limelight after gang members gave him rousing welcome last month post his release from Yerwada Prison. The Pune police swung into action and again nabbed Mane and his aide Ghaiwal and detained them under MPDA and lodged them in Prison. However as the gangster continued with their activities the Prison authorities after consultations with State police decided to shift Mane and Ghaiyal out of Pune. Acting swiftly a strong police posse left Pune in separate convoy and went in different directions with Mane to Nagpur and Ghaywal to Amravati. Kumre said special arrangements were done to lodge Mane, given his category as high profile gangster.

He is not kept in barracks with other prisoners and is under high security and in isolation to avoid contact with others. The two are bitter rivals now and to avoid any friction the prison authorities decided to isolate them and kept them in separate prisons and hence they were moved out of Yerwada. With two out of their safe zones, the police authorites belive their gangs would be vulnerable to break-up.
