Neuro Surgery in SSH gets four PG seats

AS PER the latest decision taken by Maharashtra Government, Neuro Surgery Department in Super Speciality Hospital (SSH) will now have four Post-Graduate (PG) seats with super speciality status. In a letter sent to Dean, Government Medical College and Hospital, Government of Maharashtra has communicated that the college, during Dr Sajal Mitra as its Dean, had sought PG super speciality course in Neuro Surgery. Government Medical College and Super Speciality Hospital, is recognised under Section 11(2) of the IMC Act, 1956 for 250 seats.
 
“It was necessary to raise the number of specialist doctors per lakh people in the state. At the same time it was essential to accommodate the growing number of medical graduates pursuing specialist courses in medicine. Therefore, it was important as well as imperative to institute the said course,” the letter stated. Government Medical College and Super Speciality Hospital, had applied for starting new course in MCh (Neuro Surgery). On careful consideration of the proposal the Government of Maharashtra has decided to issue an essential certificate to the applicant for 4 seats in above said course. Government in its letter has made it clear it is desirable to start the said course of MCh (Neuro Surgery) in the public interest. Starting the said course MCh (Neuro Surgery) at Government Medical College and Super Speciality Hospital, Nagpur is feasible.
 
The institution in the said department is having the faculty including Dr Pramod Giri, Professor; Dr Pavitra Patnaik, Associate Professor; Dr Sagar Shane, Assistant Professor; Dr Ankur Sanghavi, Assistant Professor; Dr Kshitij Gulhane, Assistant Professor; Dr Ramanuj Kabra, Assistant Professor; Dr Sanjog Gajbhiye, Senior Residents; Dr Palak Jaiswal, Senior Residents; Dr Vishal Tarale, Senior Residents. It is further certified that, in case the applicant fail to create infrastructure for the course, as per MCI norms and fresh admission are stopped by the Central Government, the State Government shall take over the responsibility of the students already admitted in the above said course, at this college, with the permission of the Central Government.
