Lakes, nullahs, rivers are some of the very good sources of water that cater to the needs of people. If these resources are well taken care of there will never be a water scarcity. Unfortunately though, they often remain neglected and unattended, leading to paucity of water. It just needs a little effort and lot more determination to correct the wrong done till now, and that is exactly what Jamnalal Bajaj Gram Vikas Sanstha (JBGVS), Wardha has done. The Sanstha has rejuvenated water bodies in 10 villages of Wardha district and work is going on in 5 more villages. The nullah at Palasgaon village in Selu tehsil, for example, had almost disappeared but now it has been rejuvenated and it is providing water for irrigation to 50 farmers of the village.

The authorities overlooked the death of the nullah, even though it does not require too much of funds to to desilt a nullah. Maybe what was missing was the insight to understand the possibilities and the will to make it happen. When a private or social organisation shows such zeal and then Government agency too gets inspired, things turn around from the best. This is evident from the fact that 10 villages in Wardha district have witnessed total transformation as far as water situation goes and 5 more villages are on their way to achieving that transformation. The once dry and disappearing nullah at Palasgaon village in Selu has been cleaned and desilted and now has a lot of water, enough to cater to the needs of 50 farmers who have their farms around and nullah.

This means that the nullah can now irrigate 200 acres of land. The efforts of Jamnalal Bajaj Gram Vikas Sanstha, which completed the Herculean task on its own, are being hailed by the villagers. In fact, many say this should have been done 20 years ago by administration and villagers themselves. JBGVS has carried out similar this activity in 10 villages of Wardha district. Inspired by what JBGVS was doing, Wardha Zilla Parishad too came forward. After than the activity has started in five more villages.

This would help the second crop. Zilla Parishad, Wardha has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with JBGVS. Under the three-year MoU it will be ensured that Kolhapuri weirs are used. Bajaj Institute of Technology (BIT) is also helping out. This is an excellent example of what wonders a Government agency, a NGO and an educational institute can create if they work together.
