India records 3,66,161 fresh COVID cases, 3,754 more fatalities
 
 
India has achieved the landmark of being the fastest country globally to administer 17 crore COVID-19 vaccines in the least number of days, defeating the US and China, the second the third runners-up respectively. India achieved the goal in 114 days, while the US touched the figure in 115 days and China took 119 days for reaching the same landmark. The vaccination drive in India was rolled out on January 16 with healthcare workers getting inoculated and vaccination of frontline workers started from February 2. Subsequently, it was opened for different age groups. The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has crossed the landmark of 17 crore. A total of 17,01,76,603 vaccine doses have been administered through 24,70,799 sessions, according to the provisional report till 7 am. More than 6.8 lakh vaccination doses were administered in a span of 24 hours.
 
As on Day-114 of the vaccination drive (May 9), 6,89,652 vaccine doses were given. India records 3,66,161 fresh cases, 3,754 more fatalities: AFTER recording over four lakh fresh cases for four consecutive days, India witnessed a single-day rise of 3,66,161 COVID-19 cases on Monday, which pushed its tally to 2,26,62,575, according to the Health Ministry. The death toll due to the viral disease climbed to 2,46,116 with 3,754 more people succumbing to it, the Ministry’s data updated at 8 am showed.
 
The number of active cases of the coronavirus infection in the country has gone up to 37,45,237, accounting for 16.53 per cent of its total caseload, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 82.39 per cent. Over one crore COVID-19 vaccine doses are still available with the States and UTs, which will receive over 9 lakh additional doses within three days, Health Ministry said on Monday. The Centre has so far provided nearly 18 crore vaccine doses (17,93,57,860) to States and UTs free of cost. Of this, total consumption including wastages is 16,89,27,797 doses, Ministry said.
