A tiger carcass in a decomposed condition was found in Barkhedi beat of Manpur Buffer forest circle under Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve on Friday morning.

The carcass was spotted by patrolling team near a nullah. The information was shared with officials and then team sealed the area for further interrogation. Dog squad was called on the spot to investigate the incident. Dr Nitin Gupta checked the carcass and then last rite was conducted in presence of Deputy Director Mohit Sood, DFO Swaroop Dixit, SDO and NTCA representative C M Khare. Forest officials suspected that carcass was lying there for seven to eight days. They said that entire carcass was decomposed so it was difficult to check the body parts.

DFO Swaroop Dixit said, “As carcass was around seven days old, it was decomposed. Reason for death could not be ascertained yet. Skin and other body parts were decomposed. For sample collection, parts were collected but reason could not be found yet.”

On April 13, another tiger was found dead in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. Patrolling team spotted the carcass in shrub near Janad River located on boundary of Cobratal and Badkhera beats. The feline was around 10 years old.
