THE Left Wing Extremists are apparently saying a big ‘No’ to violence due to existing COVID-19 threats. It is evident through the frequent reports about ultras’ surrender and illness. In this sequence, a surrendered Naxal couple identified as Arjun Tati and wife Laxmi Padma have been admitted to Covid hospital for treatment. As per information received, Tati, a resident of village Todka, Bijapur and Padda, a resident of village Aldand Kanker are members of Mendhki Local Operating Squad. They were reportedly active under Partapur Area Committee. Bastar Range Inspector General of Police, Sundarraj P informed that recently a Maoist couple from North Bastar Division approached the Police personnel in Kamdeta BSF camp under Koylibeda police station and mentioned that they had abandoned Medki LOS due to illness. They requested for medical assistance. During medical examination, the couple Arjun Tatti and his wife Laxmi Padda was tested positive for COVID.
 
They were active members of Medki LOS under Pratapur Area Committee and due to illness, they decided to abandon the banned outfit, subsequently they contacted police for assistance. “ The couple has been admitted to COVID care Hospital in Kanker for treatment”, informed the IG. According to IG, security forces had been getting reliable inputs regarding death of more than eight to 10 naxal cadres due to illness in the last few days in South Sukma/South Bijapur side. Many more cadres are still seriously ill.
 
“We aren't very sure about the reasons for this sudden deaths. But, according to the ground reports most of the death might be due to Corona”, said the IG, adding that due to round the clock Check posts along interstate and inter district border area, Naxals were not getting medicines and other logistic supply. Superintendent of Police M R Ahire said that police will interrogate the couple after their recovery and will initiate necessary process for their surrender. Bastar Range Inspector General of police Sundarraj P has welcomed the decision of Maoist couple in contacting police for medical treatment after they were suffering from ailment. Meanwhile, Kanker Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Vineet Khanna has appealed Naxals to surrender and take benefit of Rehabilitation policy.
