The word Silence has its own beauty. For, utterance of the word itself unconsciously creates an imagery of calmness in one’s mind. Cacophony, shout-outs, noise wrongly labelled as music, loud expression of one’s thoughts, shrillness of arguments, honking of idiocy, blowing of own trumpet, attention-seeking cries, loudmouthing, rumbling of ideologies... all these and something more of sound that is filling today’s world day in and day out, highlight the need for that much-needed bliss called Silence. Silence here does not mean something that is forced. For, forced silence reeks of suppression and has negative attributes.

Silence, self-earned, on the contrary, has positive attributes. This silence is golden. For, it opens cage of memories and frees the birds of thoughts. Once these birds start flying free in the mindscape, one can focus better on each of these birds separately. One by one, a person sitting in silence can gaze inwards and watch the personality of each of these birds unfold. Sometimes, during such inward gaze, one can realise one’s mistakes. Sometimes, one can feel good that irrespective of someone else’s blame, one is not wrong. Sometimes, one can simply enjoy release of the caged thoughts and be happy being free of the memoryload. One can attain this silence sometimes with age, sometimes with experience. Silence gives an opportunity to every human being to dive deeper into one’s own personality, and find the jewels of love, care, compassion, and positive thinking about others.

It makes one wonder why were these jewels buried so deep in one’s personality. Probably, the shouts of routine shut out the portals to these depths. Also, one gets to know answers to many perplexing questions and solutions to perpetual problems. For, silence is never empty, it offers answers. Noise may produce jarring echoes, but silence is tranquil. Cacophony is a drowning experience, but silence is immersive. One can get silence only when one is brave enough to switch oneself off from the outer world and miseries of thinking negatively about someone else’s actions. For, the word ‘Silence’ has ‘I’ in it. One can observe this silence and feel the bliss while listening to a soul-enriching music, or getting engrossed in drawing, or meditating, or simply by staring at the stars at night or by holding the hand of the companion without uttering a word. There could be different ways for different people. But, the net effect of self-earned silence is almost the same -- soothing. In a few languages other than English ‘Si’ means ‘Yes’. Borrowing that, without getting into strict grammar part of it, one can say that ‘Silence’ can be interpreted as ‘Si’ (Yes) to ‘Lense’ on inner person. Try getting immersed into silence and diving deeper to get refreshed... n
