THE 34th edition of online Karate and Sports Seminar for Physical and Spiritual Development of Sportspersons presented another new game to Nagpurians in drop roball. The online webinar is being organised by Karate Budokan International (Vidarbha Region), and is hosted by Kyoshi Harish B Choube, Black Belt 7th Dan, National Chief Instructor. Drop roball was invented by Ishwar Panghal who is also Technical Director, Drop Roball Federation of India. Speaking about the sport, Panghal said that the game was invented in 2008.

The modern Drop Roball was introduced for the first time in India in Rohtak, Haryana. Md Al Mamun, Secretary General, Asian Drop Roball Federation, promoted the game to other countries. “Drop Roball is becoming popular fast in several countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and Pakistan. The game is very easy to play and is not very costly. It can be played in villages, towns, cities. Drop roball is being played by students of various schools and universities in India,” said Panghal. Drop roball can be played in singles, doubles, triples and mix doubles, girls and boys categories. Describing about the rules and regulations of the game, Panghal said the sport is played on hard surface divided into two parts by a net. “A player starts the game by bouncing the ball on the ground and then slapping it to the other side of the court with his palm.

Opponents have to return the ball hitting by their palms,” said Panghal. Panghal also informed about the measurement of the playing field and other rules of the game. “After the referee blows the whistle to start the game, player has to serve from the point of service marked at fixed place. The ball has to be served within five seconds after the whistle. At the time of service, players cannot change their position. For a service fault, opponent team gets one point. In mixed doubles, female player will have to serve the ball while in doubles, triples and super events, service has to be done on rotation basis. After each set, loser team gets chance to serve,” added Panghal. “A match comprises three sets of 11, 15 and 21 points. Teams achieving highest points first, win the set or match,” explained Panghal. Kiran Yadav, Secretary, Nagpur District Drop Roball Association, proposed a vote of thanks.
