Amidst enthusiasm and heavy expectations, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) started vaccination of the youth population after it was opened for 18-years plus category from May 1 onwards. At three centres, Indira Gandhi Rugnalay, Gandhi Nagar; Panchpaoli Maternity Home; and Isolation Hospital, Imambada, the drive started from mid-afternoon after stock arrived early in morning.

The drive picked momentum from Sunday as the inoculation was opened from 10 am onwards. However, owing to limited availability of vials, NMC is forced to limit the jabs so that the stock last for one week atleast as per the given instruction from State Government. Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari and Avinash Thakre, Ruling Party Leader, were present at IGR at start of vaccination for 18-years plus. Prakash Warade, Assistant Commissioner, Dharampeth Zone; Dr Neelu Chimurkar, In-charge, IGR, were also present. Deputy Mayor Manisha Dhawde visited Panchpaoli Maternity Home while Prakash Bhoyar, Chairperson, Standing Committee, NMC, was at Isolation Hospital, where they inspected the arrangements in place for administration of jabs.

For a while there was little commotion at IGR as people turned-up in large numbers and demanded they should be inoculated. After being explained the procedure the crowed thinned out and vaccination went on course smoothly. Saumya Kholay was the first in city to be vaccinated in 18-year age group at IGR in presence of Mayor.

At the vaccination centres people were given time slot though Co-Win and Arogya Setu App on which they had to do pre-registration and select centre and time. Mayor has said that from May 15 onwards ample supply of vaccine would be made available to NMC and thereafter number of centres would also increase. Right now about 96 vaccination centre are functioning providing jabs to senior citizens and 45-years plus people and NMC has plans to open 50 more centres in city to speed-up the administration of jabs.
