Reddy sent to 14-day judicial custody

Amravati, M Srinivas Reddy, the co-accused in the Dipali Chavan suicide case, has been finally remanded in judicial custody on May 1. The court ordered that Reddy be remanded to judicial custody for the next 14 days as no application was filed before the court by the government’s counsel and investigating officers seeking an extension of police custody.
 
Under the guidance of Dharani police, Reddy has been handed over to Amravati District Central Jail under the supervision of a special squad and is being kept in a temporary open jail set up at a local school for the blind. Vinod Shivkumar, suspended Deputy Forest Conservator, was arrested from Nagpur immediately a day after the suicide of Dipali Chavan, Range Forest Officer from Harisal for being responsible for her death. On April 28, M K Srinivas Reddy, suspended Additional Chief Conservator of Forest and Field Director, Melghat Tiger Project, was also arrested from Nagpur at midnight on April 28.
 
He was presented before Dharni Court where he was remanded to police custody till May 1. M Srinivas Reddy was produced before Mukund Gade, First Class Magistrate, at Dharani. In the absence of the public prosecutor and the investigating officer, who were arguing on behalf of the police, Judge Mukund Gade accepted the defense’s argument and remanded Reddy in judicial custody for the next 14 days. Dr Hari Balaji N, District Rural Superintendent of Police, intoergated M S Reddy at Dharni Police Station.Poonam Patil, Investigating Officer, and SDPO, Vilas Kulkarni, Police Inspector, Prashant Gite, Assistant Inspector of Police and other police personnel were present on the occasion.
