A police team which was conducting raids on the illegal liquor and gambling dens was attacked by the bootleggers and their supporters. The anti-socials resorted to stone pelting to release the accused persons in Ramteke Nagar (Toli) area on Monday evening. The area is infamous for illegal liquor distillation and criminal activities. Due to intensified police patrolling and continuous raids, the police have managed to put checks on the illegal activities in the area. Liquor is illegally distilled in the many houses in the area. Some residents are also running gambling dens where many criminals are used to visit dens.
 
Despite continuous police action, the anti-socials somehow manage to continue their illegal activities. A police team of around 10 personnel from various police stations raided the dens on Monday at 5.30 pm. The police had managed to nab six bootleggers and bundled them in the police jeep. As the news of arrest spread in the area, the supporters of the accused including women and teenagers came near the police jeep and pelted stones on it. Front windshield of the police jeep was damaged in the stone pelting.
 
The cops then immediately issued a message to the police control room for additional staff to control the mob. After receiving the message, Additional Commissioner of Police (Addl CP) South Region Dilip Zalke, DCP (Zone IV) Dr. Akshay Shinde rushed to the spot with a team of Riot Control Police (RCP) and additional staff of Zone IV. The cops launched a combing operation across the area and nabbed 25 persons. The accused were taken to Ajni police station. A large number of police personnel were deployed in the area in the night.
