COVID-19 situation in Nagpur district appears to be stabilising, if the numbers are to be taken into account. For the fourth day in a row, the district reported more number of recoveries than fresh cases. As a result, the active caseload also has witnessed a reduction. If one considers statistics for last five days -- from April 29 to May 3 -- the active caseload in the district has reduced by 5,190. Decline in active caseload results in improvement in availability of hospital beds and also in easing pressure on the heavily-burdened healthcare system.

 

 

 

As far as recoveries are concerned, 6,601 were reported on Monday, including 4,596 from city and 2,005 from rural areas. With these fresh recoveries, the cumulative total of recoveries rose to 3,44,245 including 2,58,583 in city and 85,662 in rural areas. The good trend of increase in recovery rate continued on Monday too. As a result, the cumulative recovery rate of the district rose from 80.51 per cent (reported on Sunday) to 81.12 per cent (reported on Monday). If one considers data released in the past five days -- from April 29 to May 3 (Monday) -- it becomes clear that the district recorded 34,830 recoveries during this period as against 30,527 fresh cases. In case of Nagpur city alone, the number of recoveries during this period was 23,388 as against 18,041 new cases. However, rural areas of the district continue to be a cause of concern, as the number of recoveries during the said period was 11,442 as against 12,431 new cases. Thus, in rural areas, the cumulative number of fresh cases was more than recoveries in past five days. With the district recording more recoveries than fresh cases for the fourth day in a row, the active caseload dipped by 5,190 in past five days. The active caseload of the district was 77,627 on April 29. As per the data released by the administration on Monday (May 3), it reduced to 72,437.

 

For the city of Nagpur, too, the active caseload reduced from 31,477 (data released on April 29) to 31,096 (Monday). Thus, the city reported decline in active caseload by 381. In case of rural areas, the active caseload reduced from 46,150 (April 29) to 41,341 (Monday), a decline of 4,809 cases. As per the data released by the administration on Monday, the district reported 4,987 new cases including 3,161 in Nagpur city, 1,814 in rural areas, and 12 from outside the districts. This increased the cumulative total number of cases in the district to 4,24,357 including 3,04,272 from city, 1,18,810 from rural areas, and 1,275 from outside the district. The daily positivity rate of the district reduced from 26.87 per cent (reported on Sunday) to 24.71 per cent (reported on Monday).

 

The number of deaths reported on Monday was 76 including 48 from city, 16 from rural areas, and 12 of persons from outside the district. With these new deaths, cumulative total of the district rose to 7,675 including 4,645 from city, 1,937 from rural areas, and 1,093 of persons from outside the district. The daily death rate dipped from 2.23 per cent (reported on Sunday) to 1.52 per cent (Monday). As per the data released by the administration on Monday, total 20,178 tests were conducted in the district of which 16,726 were in city and 3,452 in rural areas. Of the total number of tests conducted in the district, 17,655 were RT-PCR and 2,523 were rapid antigen tests. So far, cumulatively since last year, total 23,37,981 tests have been conducted in the district including 16,72,728 in city and 6,65,253 in rural areas.
