BHILAI Steel Plant (BSP) Township residents are still deprived of clean potable water even after suitable additive chemical dosing for clearing turbidity in water. The claim of BSP fell flat to ensure supply of clean water from Wednesday onwards. According to BSP officials water is now being supplied from Kharkhara dam and the issue of muddy colour of water will soon be resolved.

Amrit Singh, House Leasing Scheme beneficiary from Sector-6, Bhilai stated that on Wednesday also the residents from the township were supplied contaminated water on contrary to the claim of clean potable water supply from after two days. Dilip Jena from HSCL Colony, Bhilai informed that nobody could dare to drink such quality water and most residents from the colony are buying water jars regularly. In present scenario of spread of COVID-19 pandemic the residents are afraid of using such worst quality for any purpose. Suryakant Sinha, former Corporator, Ward 55, BSP Township informed that even after high level intervention situation is same. The township residents are also afraid of outbreak of viral disease or jaundice amid spread of the pandemic.

He demanded the authorities to opt for apt measures to ensure supply of clean potable water in adverse time. Public Relation Department, BSP informed that the senior officials from SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant’s Town services Department with experts who visited the Plant’s Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in the morning today on Wednesday found that the quality of water with respect to muddy colour had improved. The chemical that experts from NALCO Water India Ltd had identified a suitable additive to remove the issue of muddy colour in water supplied in BSP township and the same is continuing to be added to water from the evening hours of Monday at Water Treatment Plant. Due to the huge volume of water in the WTP, the process of dosing of water in WTP by experts from NALCO may take some time to stabilize and it is expected that the desired results would be obtained by the end of this week.

As the supply of raw coloured water from Tandula dam has been stopped and water is now being supplied from Kharkhara, it is expected that the problem of muddy colour in water will soon be completely resolved. BSP management and its Town Services Department has time and again reassured residents of the Township by reiterated that all parameters of water being supplied in township that are being monitored by regular water analysis at water treatment plant lab are as per norms and other than the issue of muddy colour, water being supplied in BSP township is potable and safe for drinking. There are no undesired sediments in the water and the only issue is that of the muddy colour.
