In a relative positive news, notwithstanding the fact that word got much maligned in COVID-19 havoc, the availability of beds in district reached all time high, crossing the 1,000 mark on Thursday evening. Apart from that the number of vacant beds in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) also has crossed the 100 mark. Since past few days the vacant beds in Dedicated Covid Hospitals (DCHs) are increasing amidst indication of falling graphs of infection. The situation, however, was not so rosy just a week back as citizens scrambled for hospital beds as curve of COVID-19 second wave hit like a torrent.

From second of March onwards and entire month of April, the situation in city was very dismal as relatives were desperate, hopping from one hospital to another just to get vacant beds. Hospitals, too, were overflowing with serious patients and the surge of patients kept everyone on tenterhooks. Many unfortunate could not make it in time as much time was lost in getting vacant beds. In the mean time civic administration along with Collectorate ramped up beds capacity to ensure that at least primary medical care is available to COVID-19 positive patients.

Now with improved availability of critical medicines and lining up of oxygen supply, hospitals are much better placed as of today. As of now nearly 1,112 oxygenated beds were available at 7 pm on Thursday as per data collected by Nagpur Municipal Corporation. Further with establishment of Central Control Room (CCR) a much better control is now in place for admission of patients in DCHs. The position in Government run hospitals vis-a-vis availability of oxygenated beds was as follows: GMCH-60; Mayo Hospital-50, IGR-14, Isolation Hospital-2, Ayush Hospital (NMC-Sadar)-15, Panchpaoli DCHC-22, KT Nagar Hospital-17, Lata Mangeshkar Hospital, Hingna-6, Shalinitai Meghe Hospital, Hingna-151, Divl Rly Hospital-7 and Pakwasa Rugnalay-14.
