Kanan Pendari Zoo authority takes preventive measures for animals

Kanan Pendari Zoo authority in Bilaspur district has started taking several precautionary measures to protect herbivores and carnivores from SARS CoV2 virus, after eight Asiatic lions have been reported testing positive for the SARS-CoV2 virus at the Hyderabad Zoo.
 
Speaking to The Hitavada, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Bilaspur Kumar Nishant said that the Zoo authority is taking all measures to protect the animals from the SARS-CoV2 virus. It has been made mandatory to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kit, mask, gloves and face shield for animal keepers and vehicle drivers in the Kanan Pendari Zoological Garden, which is a medium zoo. Two metre social distancing is being maintained by all zoo staffers. The close contacts with all animals are being avoided. The Covid testing of all the zoo staffers has been conducted. The Zoo is being sanitised with hypochlorite every day, the DFO added.
 
All food supplied to the animals in the Zoo are being cleaned and disinfected thoroughly and meat is being sterilised by dipping in hot water for 10 minutes, Kumar Nishant said. There are over 650 animals in the Kanan Pendari Zoo. There are 6 Royal Bengal tigers, 3 white tigers, 7 lions and 4 leopards in the Zoo.
