JMC begins work to remove parthenium from road sides

The Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC) is now endeavoring to check spread of skin diseases through parthenium and its bad effects on society. Parthenium not only affects human health but also causes serious health hazards in cattle. Hence to check health hazards of this grass on citizens, the civic body is conducting special drive in all divisions of the city. It has started the drive on Tuesday last and within three days the employees of health department of the JMC removed huge quantity of this allergy causing grass. Senior officials informed that the employees conducted the drive in wards under division no. 3 and 4 apart from Adhartal, Bhantallya, Lalmati and Civil Lines division. The employees uprooted the grass and destroyed it.
 
Senior officials including Assistant Commissioner T S Kumre, Mahesh Kori, Parmesh Jalote and Health Officer, Bhupendra Singh have been monitoring the drive regularly. It may be noted that Parthenium hysterophorus is a species of flowering plant in the aster family. It is locally known as carrot grass or Gajar Ghans. The plant produces Allelopathic chemicals that suppress crop and pasture plants, and allergens that affect humans and livestock. It also frequently causes pollen allergies. Hence, to protect citizens and livestock from the dangerous grass, the civic body is conducting special. Meanwhile, the Municipal Commissioner, Sandeep G R has asked concerned senior official to avoid any negligence in the work.
