National workshop on yoga begins

A NATIONAL online workshop on Yoga and Holistic Health has been organised by Department of Sports and Physical Education, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University; Open and Distance Learning Centre Kavi Kalidas Sanskrit University, Ramtek, Shri Binzani City College and Nabira Mahavidyalaya, Katol. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr Sanjay Dudhe, Pro-Vice Chancellor, RTMNU. “During this pandemic time, yoga plays an important role in keeping body fit. Pranayam has been proved beneficial in post-COVID recovery,” said Dudhe during his inaugural address. Dudhe further said that yoga should now be a part of daily life and should be performed daily by all members of the family. “Everybody should spend atleast one hour daily doing yoga for better life,” he added on the opening day of the seven-day workshop.
 
The Pro-VC was of the view that sportspersons and students should regularly perform yoga to keep themselves healthy. Dr CG Vijay Kumar, Registrar, Kavi Kalidas Sanskrit University, Ramtek was the chief guest on the occasion. In his address, Vijay Kumar said yoga plays a vital role in keeping mind stable and helps in handling peculiar situations in a better way. He said that yoga can be done by everybody irrespective of their age. Manoj Soni, Yoga Department incharge of Ranchi University was the guest speaker of the opening session. In his address Soni said that in post-COVID era it is very important to perform yoga daily to improve immunity and overall health. He said the asanas like Suryanamaskar, Vrajasana, Mandukasana, Sinhasana, Bhujangasana, Kandharasana should be performed regularly for better health.
 
These asanas helps in releasing mental pressure, controls anger and helps in maintaining blood pressure. “Doing Anulom Vilom Pranayama regularly helps in strengthening lungs,” added Soni. Soni informed that sportspersons should perform yoga exercises regularly during cooling down exercise. “Shawasana, Makrasana, Omkara asanas are very helping during cooling down exercises,” he informed. Dr Arun Khodskar of Hanuman Vyayam Prasarak Mandal’s Degree College of Physical Education, Amravati, presided over the session while international yoga player Dhanashri Lekurwale was the special guest. Dr Sharad Suryawanshi, Director, Department of Sports and Physical Education, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University made the introductory remark while Dr Sonali Sirbhate conducted the proceedings. Arjuna and Dronacharya award winner Paralympian Vijay Munishwar, who is also RTMNU Senate Member and Sports and Physical Education Board’s Senior Member Dr Dhananjay Welukar were special guests on the occasion. Dr Sanjay Chaudhary of SB City College proposed a vote of thanks.
