Even after facing the challenging period of Covid-19 pandemic, Western Central Railway (WCR) made a noteworthy expansion in infrastructure from April 2020 to June 2021. In the year 2020-21, WCR became the first railway zone to achieve cent-percent electrification on all routes. Post completion of infrastructure work on railway lines, WCR operated passenger trains at a speed of 130 km/hr at Group-A Golden Quadrilateral and Golden Diagonal(GQ-GD) sections. The 68 pairs of passenger trains at Bhopal Division and 71 pairs of passenger trains at Kota Division were operated at a speed of 130km/hr.

 

The WCR became the first zone of Indian Railway to operate passenger trains at a speed of 130km/hr. WCR became the first zone in Indian Railway to stop gate-level crossing in the year 2015-16. To ensure smooth operation of trains, WCR removed mechanical semaphore signal and installed colour lighting signals at every route. From February to May, the average speed of passenger trains was 56.57 km/hr. From April 2020 to June 2021, WCR completed a total of 176 km of doubling and tripling work.

 

Of these 96 km of doubling and tripling work was completed in the year 2020-21 and 80 km of doubling and tripling work was completed between April 2021 to June 2021. WCR completed the work of panel interlocking, electrical interlocking and route relay interlocking from April 2020 to June 2021. From April 2020 to June 2021, WCR constructed Limited Height subways and closed 48 crossing gates. Moreover, WCR installed Intermediate Block Signalling System (IBS) to operate several trains simultaneously.
