Ex-CM Fadnavis pays tributes to ‘Flying Sikh’ Milkha Singh

FORMER Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and noted sportspersons and sports organisers paid rich tributes to ‘Flying Sikh’ Milkha Singh who left for heavenly abode late on Friday night. On his Facebook page, Fadnavis wrote, “The Flying Sikh! Pained to know about the demise of Padma Shri Milkha Singh ji. He was not only a mere record holder, but a sports icon for our nation. Our humble tributes to Him. And deepest condolences to His family, friends & millions of admirers. Om Shanti” Fadnavis, who was also youngest Mayor of the city, shared a picture with Singh when the quarter-miler visited the city as chief guest for the Nagpur Marathon in November 2016. Organiser of city’s popular running event Mitesh Rambhiya, who is associated with Adventures And You also posted a creative depicting Singh with a pair of wings while paying tributes.
 
Arjuna and Dronacharya Awardee Vijay Munishwar said, “I wholeheartedly respect his performance, salute to his achievements. Though he (Pakistan’s Abdul Khaliq) was better at that time, our Milkha Singh defeated him, that was great news for we Hindustani.” Hockey Administrator Trilokinath Sidhra also paid respect, “Flying Legend Milkha Singh left us... may almighty God rest the departed soul in peace. Great loss to sports organisations, Om Shanti Shanti Shanti.” Coach of Shakuntala Sports Foundation, Wanadongri Ramchandra Wani and his athletes stood in silence for a couple of inutes prior to practice session to pay tributes to the departed soul.
